drama team

The Worship Service Drama Team is a select group of teen and adult actors who work closely with the pastoral staff to enhance worship through dramatic readings and presentations of biblical scripture and scripture related stories. They are highly committed to excellence in presentations that inspire and move the congregation to a more intimate and transforming worship experience.

The Village Church Drama Ministry Program, under the direction of Margie Wood, began presenting scenes based on Bible stories for the Women’s Bible Fellowship in 2002. Since then, it has grown to a Worship Service Drama Team of adults and teens who auditioned for the privilege of membership in the group. They train and rehearse weekly for presentations in the Contemporary Worship Service on a regular basis. Director Margie Wood was the recipient of a grant funded by the Eli Lily Foundation through the Calvin College Institute of Worship in 2008, which awarded her attendance at the Christians in Theater Arts Conference, where she participated in the Theater in Worship classes. The grant also made it possible for a professional actor/director who performs in a Christian touring company to come to the Village Church for a weekend in the spring of 2009 for a special training workshop. The team also trains periodically with other professional actors and directors. In 2009, the team had a special workshop and coaching session with professional actor/director Tom Long, one of the summer music/drama camp directors during the camp week. It is the vision that the drama will also explore mission trips that will take them outside the Village Church, where God’s Word can be communicated in new and exciting ways through the power of theater.
